In an early year euphoric explosion of beans and spunk, and not at all a cynical money making ploy, blanket have made a new Seedy.
9 previously-as-yet-as-far-as-i-know-heretofore-unheard recordings.
The artwork will be created by myself in a fit of pique tomorrow, but it'll be utilitarian, simple and elegant. Or pissed.

The tracks on this new seedy are:

The Tate, Monkey Chews, West Country

We played at the wonderful Tate Britain last week, lots of people, lots
of free alcohol and many bands. Strange dreamlike, noisy time in the
gallery. Thanks to all responsible.

This Thursday night we're at Monkey Chews in Chalk Farm. Details of
that place are here. Think we're on early cause the boys have to be back
in Brighton before sunrise.

February the 3rd is Bristol, more to follow about that. One thing at a time,

Houp grug

So, post apropos nothing.
Saturday night, might go up and do a bit of recording.
Sat on the radiator, on my windowsill, tap tap tapping away.
The legendary Himyarl is down tonight, so we'll be piling on down to the Tropical Bar later.

So, Blanket eh?
The past few weeks have seen us rehearsing at my new flat in the centre of town.
Nicknamed 'Place' by the Mekano Set and Co. for it's likeness to the building of the same name
in the Nathan Barly series. A place for creativilization.

Got some good gigs coming up, and we're working on lots of new songs.
Vicky made an amazing roast dinner a couple of weeks back, followed by a lovely simple
pasta thing last week.
Hanging out, being sociable, things so easily overlooked when you're in a band.
You forget that that's partly the reason you even do it.
Good natured arguments, lots of photos, and pissing about with instruments.
It's what it's all about really isn't it?

Derailed loads of times now, feels more relaxed yet more intense at the moment.
Does that make sense? No, probably not.
It's all good though, we're actually a fucking good little band.

Come to the shows, take pictures and make recordings.
Burn copies of our songs for friends and link people to our site.

It's all hopefully on the up.

afternoon,

so we played the crystal cabinet harvet festival yesterday.
had a great time, and the bands were superb.
the standout for me was 'the fabulous nobody'.
a large bald chap singing lovely 40's-ish jazz songs.
grrreat.

i think we played really well last night.
we got an encore and even some "wooo!"s.
hopefully the recording confirms this.
i even laid down some phat beats & breaks. or something.

i also had a right nice pie from the lovely zoe john.

right, i may need to go and hunter-gather.
feeling a bit fragile.
hopefully burch will be along later to lay down some pictures
and mp3's on your asses. take care.

So, the wonderful Palm Springs have a new single out. It's
called 'Echo Of Me/After Honey', and to launch it and
generally celebrate getting some work done they're playing
at this crazy little room in Kempt Town, Brighton.
We're lucky enough to be playing too. It should be a magical
evening. Thursday night from 8pm, £4 in. Films, lights and
music under the dome.

Oh, and Stephen is at the Bleeding Hearts club at the Albert
in Trafalgar St, Brighton on Monday night with the Dress
Circle on piano and drums. Free to get in - usually pristine
melancholia, who knows.

If this all sounds a bit twee and folsky, then get to the Concorde
2 on Monday night instead for a dose of the Mekano Set. Free
to get in, lots of bands.

hello people,

appypollyloggies for the lack of updates recently.
my fault entirely, i seem to have a lot on my plate at the moment.
self induced of course but it all seems a bit messy.

firstly, the recordings are done, we just need to finish the mixing which, i admit,
i have been a bit slack on recently. i seem to have a hard time running more than one thing concurrently. it's also a lot of work and requires a lot of man hours which i haven't always got and this tends to be taken for granted slightly.

secondly, we will be playing on the 4th of july at the albert for the 2nd anniversary of the fantastic bleeding hearts. we'll only be performing one, maybe a couple of songs (there will be a lot of other bands) but it promises to be a great evening with lots of really, very talented bands playing. should be a laugh. very informal.

so, everything is looking very rosy indeed. the only problems are from trying to balance things - we all have other things going on which take up all important time.

i'll probably get stick for this entry from the others for being a misery, but bear in mind it is monday, i'm knackered and i feel rubbish.

things will be happening soon though, i promise.

sunday we're at the george tavern, 373 commercial rd, east london. 10 mins from whitechapel, way out there someplace. i think we're playing as part of a whole Composers, Dexter Bentley thing - should be mayhem. BUT it is free to get in...

that's free admission.

ok, next up is a show at the Arts Theatre Club in Frith St in Soho. The wonderful Stars Of Aviation are playing too and this one is going to be £3 or some such.

if we play twice in a row without going home inbetween does that make it a tour?

so, anyone who saw us at audio or if you see us at the next couple of gigs, tell us how you think it's sounding. the sound is changing quite a lot at the moment, is it better?
it's more fun certainly. i personally think it sounds more interesting at the moment but i have a love of shitty drum machines and keyboards. feel free to tell us you think we suck now because we're not as hardcore acoustic as we used to be as well. any feedback is good. have the songs lost something? gained something? don't care?

Sorry for the lack of updates - i have no excuses at all. just been sitting and feeling sorry for ourselves mostly.

anyways, after a little time off blanket are playing at 'audio' on the seafront in brighton on the 13th of april with the wonderful 'stars of aviation'.

we also have a show on the 21st of april at the Curzon cinema in Soho with The Composers. should be an evening of film and variety.

we've also been recording some more and writing some new things - you may even hear these at the upcoming shows..

so the sun is out, spring is here - hope everyone's a-o-k.

Hi everyone - laurence and the diamond family archive continue their weekend in the big smoke with a show at the spitz tomorrow night. if you missed their appearance on resonance fm this afternoon, you can hear it by visiting the resonance fm page and downloading a thingy, then clicking on it and the thing will make like a radio thing. it'll be alright.

and blanket are back with a show on the seafront in brighton on april 13th.

hello folks,

i haven't posted in a while so i thought i'd say i'm not dead.
blanket are currently recording stuff & things and so far its sounding great.
more 'sonic' than most of our recordings (you'll understand when you hear them).
pretty different to how we perform some of the songs live.
i think these are on the way to becoming 'definitve' versions - if such a thing exists.
on a different note, i will be playing drums with the mekano set on the 19th march
at the providence in brighton. yep, i'm a whore. spreading it all around.
it should be good - i get to use sticks and everything. twat! take that!
i might also be playing with the diamond family archive at some london shows (including a resonance fm session). unfortunately, blanket haven't got any more shows coming up for a bit.

not really a blanket issue, but just to remind you that the diamond family archive will be playing at the concorde 2 on sunday (the 13th february) as part of sadstock.
i will also be appearing with them playing some things.
it should be a great day. other bands appearing are:

thanks to the kids at the sussex arts club for an enjoyable evening on thursday. we played a sloppy set, but hope anyone there enjoyed it. we must try harder, but it's ok we will.

the recordings that we've been doing sound good - and we have a listenable field recording from the show this week - so things should appear on the website by the end of next week.

just off to meet laurence and his diamond family for a pint, but lewis is playing with dirty metal music this evening - see you later suckers,

Hello everyone - the other bands playing at the sussex arts club gig next week are bareskin rugs and david parker. have a clicksee.

this week laurence and i have been doing a little bit of recording - lots of guitars - acoustic guitars, toy spanish guitars, electric guitars, lap steel guitars - we like guitars. things are sounding nice and spacious even with all the guitars - we hope to have some new things for everyone soon.

hope to see you at the sussex - it's a lovely venue - a ballroom with a beautiful domed ceiling and the bar has big leather seats for smoking in. come to brighton for a good sit down.

hello folks,
i'm bored. heres some randomness (not affiliated with blanket, only me).
i've recently finished the 'grapes of wrath' and am now onto 'hitler, my part in his downfall' - good reading.
my new favourite movie review site is this. classic.
check this guy out - a great comedian.
also, check out the mekano sets blog.
pretty funny. plus, milk could really do with the company. he gets lonely.
so, yeah, recorded some things for the steam age today. keep on rocking in the free world! usa! usa!
also, steves fish is still constantly hyperactive - i blame the parents.
can anyone reading this send me large amounts of money?

hello people - the gig in the wonderful ballroom at the sussex arts club on the 3rd of february has now been confirmed - more details to follow, but the diamond family archive will probably be playing too. this will mean an early start for blanket to avoid laurence spending 2 hours on stage in a row...

hello - i'm afraid to say that blanket will now not be appearing at next weeks event at the fire station on the 22nd as previously promised. this is due to absenteeism.

we will however be turning up at the 12bar club on the 17th of february, and possibly at the sussex arts club before that on the 3rd of february.

sorry about that, should still be a fun day out though, and vicky's going so she'll probably end up singing on her own anyways. get on down there..
